'Beyond Halftime': Planning Beyond School System Leadership

Description: This pre-conference workshop to the Education Congress is designed for individuals who are beginning to think about what life is like after retiring from being a successful school leader.

Using Bob Buford's book Beyond Halftime as the discussion platform, participants will discover there are opportunities to move into the most exciting time of life: as Buford puts it, "a chance to move from success to significant."

The evening is designed to give participants an informal opportunity to discuss the opportunities to continue giving to the profession with those who are living the dream. They will also become familiar with the requirements associated with working past retirement and planning for the freedom of retirement choices.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with table leaders on specific retirement questions. Table leaders will be individuals doing a variety of significant positions and activities beyond retirement, as well as other individuals with specific knowledge about the transition beyond school system leadership. In addition, participants will receive a copy of the book Beyond Halftime prior to the workshop.

Time: This program begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner and ends at 9:00 p.m.
