Overview of Available Programs for School Administrators

Our Mission:
"To promote high quality public education systems for all learners through the support and development of professional leadership"

PASA offers a wide variety of professional development programs, all focused on school leadership - and providing practical tools for school administrators in their leadership role.  Whether you are new to your role or an experienced administrator, PASA offers both the professional programs and support you need to grow in the position and, ultimately, provide the leadership tools you need to raise student achievement and more effectively carry out administrative functions in communications, staff support, management and policy.

Take advantage of our professional development opportunities, including the following:

New Superintendents' Academy*
A three-part program designed to provide new superintendents practical information regarding preliminary steps and complicated issues involved with entering a new leadership role

Led by experienced superintendents and other education leaders, the Academy gives you the tools you need to succeed in your new position.  Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to not only gain useful information about the superintendency but also network with others new to the position and with superintendents experienced in the job.   The three Academy sessions each focus on an essential element of the superintendency: 

  • Entry: leading with the school board to create a culture of teaching and learning, and the superintendent's role as ethical leader and public advocate

  • Communications/Planning: communicating with the board, staff and the public, and school district budgeting

  • Evaluation: Using evaluation in district and professional improvement, collecting and using data to make program decisions, and the superintendent's role ine stablishing systems to evaluate personnel

Leadership for Teaching*
A unique program for school administrators,  focused on the leadership role of the administrator in the Standards Aligned System (SAS)

Designed by PASA in collaboration with the PA Department of Education, this program is offered offered in four modules over five full-day sessions (distributed throughout the calendar year).  The four modules focus administrators on specific topics:

  • A Global Perspective: Why SAS?

  • Resiliency (two modules)

  • Data for Teaching and Learning

  • The Role of the Administrator

Aspiring to Leadership
A two-day program aimed at assisting potential superintendents in thinking about their expectations, goals and responsibilities as prospective commissioned officers

This valuable program, held in January, gives aspiring leaders the opportunity to hear about the role of the superintendent and examine their own expectations and professional path to determine whether that is an appropriate career path for them.  Superintendents are urged to send to this workshop those within their districts who should be considering a leadership position in the future.  Issues to be discussed during the program include:

  • beliefs, principles, passions and commissions that motivate one to see a leadership position in public education
  • the dimensions of the superintendency
  • the search process
  • finding the right match
  • developing a contract
  • the entry process
Education Congress*
A one-day conference focused on a current education leadership issue of importance to Pennsylvania school administrators

This annual conference, which highlights the role of the school leader in raising student achievement, provides participants an opportunity to hear from some of the most well-known authors and researchers in education today.  The featured presenter at the 2014 Congress will be Alan November (March 6). 

 
Women's Caucus Annual Spring Conference
A three-day program for women in school administration, focused on leadership, networking and professional learning opportunities

This program, held annually in early May, focuses administrators on a wide-variety of educational leadership issues, all aimed at professional growth.  Featured speakers, numerous educational sessions and many networking opportunities afford participants an excellent opportunity to gain in knowledge both personally and professionally and expand their network of contacts within the educational community.

Program marked with an asterisk (*) are currently approved or pending approval
for PIL/Act 48.
