2021 PASA Election
PASA is seeking nominations and candidates for:
- PASA President-Elect/Secretary
- PASA Treasurer
- Pennsylvania representatives (two) to the AASA Governing Board
PASA Officers: President-Elect/Secretary and Treasurer
Candidates for PASA President-Elect/Secretary must make a three-year commitment to the association by serving one year each as President-Elect/Secretary, President and Past-President. The President-Elect/Secretary shall perform all duties of the President in the absence or unavailability of the President. The President-Elect/Secretary shall assure that minutes are prepared and maintained for all meetings of the Board of Governors and PASA members; shall assure that appropriate notice is given for all meetings of the Board of Governors and PASA members as required by law and the PASA Bylaws; shall be the custodian of the PASA corporate records; and generally, shall perform all other duties as may be required by law, PASA’s Articles of Incorporation, the PASA Bylaws, and as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Governors or as the President may delegate in accordance with the PASA Bylaws. The individual elected will serve as President-Elect/Secretary and chairperson of the Advocacy Committee beginning October 1, 2021, as President beginning on October 1, 2022, and as Past President and chairperson of the Membership Committee beginning October 1, 2023. (See Section 504 of the PASA Bylaws for duties of the PASA President and Immediate Past President.)
Candidates for PASA Treasurer serve a one-year term. The Treasurer shall oversee and supervise the financial business of PASA; shall assure that accurate accounts of the receipts and disbursements of PASA are maintained; and shall cause financial reports to be provided to the Board of Governors as required by law, the PASA Bylaws, and as required by the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall be the chairperson of the Audit Committee and, generally, PASA shall perform all other duties as may be required by law, the Articles of Incorporation, the PASA Bylaws, and as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Governors. The elected Treasurer's term begins on October 1, 2021.
Eligibility: Eligible candidates must have been paid voting members of PASA with a Commissioned Officer or Small School District Leader membership for at least three (3) years prior October 1, 2020. Nominating Process: Due to continuing COVID concerns, interested candidates are not asked to collect physical signatures to support their candidacy via nomination petitions. Rather, those interested in being a candidate for one of the officer positions should send their statement of interest directly to Dr. Mark DiRocco, PASA Executive Director, via email. Once PASA confirms the candidate's eligibility to run for the position, PASA will develop an online survey/petition for that candidate via SurveyMonkey and provide the candidate with the link to that survey. Candidates then will be able to share that link electronically to secure the online endorsement of a total of at least twenty (20) voting members of PASA from a combination of no less than two (2) PASA regions, including the candidate’s own region (I.U.). “Voting members of PASA” are Commissioned Officer and Small District Leader members. (Questions concerning eligibility or status of PASA membership should be directed to Jolene Zelinski at email@example.com.) The online "survey" petition will close by 6 p.m. on March 12, 2021.
Election: This election will be held in early spring (date TBA).
Pennsylvania Representatives to the AASA Governing Board (two positions)
Term: three years, effective July 2021 through June 2024
PASA is seeking to fill two (2) positions on the AASA Governing Board. Responsibilities of the Board include:
- acting on resolutions submitted by the AASA Executive Committee or other resolutions approved for consideration with a 2/3 vote
- recommending policy to the Executive Committee
- serving as the liaison between state affiliates and AASA
- determining, on an annual basis, the Association dues for Active and Associate members
- recommending programs and activities for inclusion in the AASA budget
- reviewing the annual AASA budget
- affirming AASA's legislative agenda
Eligibility: Eligible Pennsylvania candidates must have been an eligible voting member of both AASA and PASA for at least three years prior to the October 1, 2020. ("Voting members of PASA" include those who are current PASA members as Commissioned Officers or Small District Leaders. "Voting members of AASA" are current Active, Institutional Active, Life or College Professor members.) Nominees must be committed to attending two AASA meetings per year (July and February). Travel expenses are provided for the July meeting. Governing Board members are responsible for their own expenses to the February meeting, which coincides with the AASA National School Leadership Conference. Nomination Process: Candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by current PASA members who are Commissioned Officer or Small District Leader members. No signatures or petitions are required. As part of the election process, candidates must submit electronically to the PASA office by the determined deadline a short biographical statement/letter (including involvement with AASA and PASA), goals for AASA, and reason(s) for seeking the position, along with a digital photograph.
